Prepare for a loyal and loving adventure. It’s no wonder why the Labrador Retriever is the top dog of choice for Americans. Adaptability

Courageous is his middle name. Top dog for training used by police and as a service dog for the disabled. There’s not a lot this guy can’t learn or be trained to do. They have herding traits in their blood, as they were breed to do this – but that doesn’t mean they can’t be a family dog.  They don’t take well to strangers, but once they bond with you there’s not much that will break their loyalty.

Golden Retriever

Adaptability

Did someone say PLAY!? the Golden Retriever loves to enjoy all of your outdoor activities with you (and your family). They are very obedient, smart and adapt well. Since they do so well around strangers they make good watchdogs, but not very good guard dogs. Golden Retrievers do best in environments where they get lots of attention and love.

All around friendly, playful and smart. A great family dog who never seems to run out of energy.

Bulldog

Adaptability

The bulldog was bread for fighting, but this doesn’t mean that he can’t be a great family dog as they were also bread to be a farm dog. You can get a great watch dog that will also connect well with you and your family. A working dog that will be able to curl up with you at the day. But don’t expect him to get along well with cats or other dogs for that matter.

Adaptability

The Yorkshire’s personalities vary a great deal based on how they were raised. Some roll with the punches, others can be high-maintenance. Expect to give them lots of attention either way – you’ll likely find that you have acquired a shadow as they like to do everything with you.

Adaptability

They can look a little mean and scary at first with their lean and muscular builds, but most Boxers are playful babies. High energy means they require a great deal of physical activity. Your boxer wants to be the center of attention so don’t be surprised if he won’t leave your guest alone.

Smart, loyal, easy going, gentle, and athletic.

Rottweiler

Adaptability

While the Rottweiler has a reputation for being a viscous beast, this isn’t very consistent with their natural personality. They are incredibly loyal which makes them a great watchdog as they strive to protect their own. Since being overly aggressive isn’t in their nature they must be trained to be the “junk yard dog”.  You will find that your Rottweiler will enjoy cuddling with your family and they usually don’t know how big they are – don’t be surprised if they jump on your lap and curl up on your couch like a lap dog.

Dachshund

Adaptability

Chalked full of personally for a small guy. So many times family’s get a Dachshund and never own anything else the rest of their lives. Quirky, active, lovable and they can adapt to most all environments. One thing that they don’t do well, however, is sharing the love and attention with other dogs or humans for that matter.
